MY SON WANTS TO BE A

COCONUT TREE CLIMBER!!!

You will not find one house in Kerala that does not have a coconut tree! Every three-four months, there is a guy who is eagerly awaited by the ladies of the house. He will most always be a skinny guy, as thin as the trunk of a coconut tree. With utmost skill he will shimmy up the coconut tree and pluck and throw the coconuts down never once losing his balance. The only equipment that he has is a rope that is tied between his ankles. How he manages this, I don't know. As soon as he has climed the umpteen trees in the compund, the grateful lady of the house gives him tea and some coconuts as payment and tries to persuade him to stay and split the husks for her. Sometimes he does and sometimes he doesn't. Finally the coconuts are gathered and stored in the dark store rooms where they stay till they metamorphize into delicious chutneys , coconut oil, grated coconuts for the thorans. You name it and we have coconut in it! They are distributed amongst family and out of towners (like us) who do not have a coconut tree. The BH grumbles about this , but I always get my supply of coconuts and coconut oil each time i visit Kerala. Yes, I know its available in Bangalore, but when it is freely available at home then why buy it?? If you hear him grumble you would think he carries the entire sack on his all the way to Blore!!!
Coming back to Mowgli, he saw this super interesting and completely new activity at the BH's place. And ever since then he is seen standing next to the coconut tree trying to climb it. and saying to the tree "Mowglinu jump" ( can be loosely translated as "Mowgli wants to jump on you")!!!
